Gregg Popovich became the third head coach in NBA history to win 1,300 regular-season games on Saturday night, as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Chicago Bulls 120-104.
Popovich, 72, is 35 regular-season wins from tying Don Nelson for the most ever. Lenny Wilkens is second on the all-time list at 1,332 wins. Popovich already holds the record for most total wins including playoffs, as he has 170 more in the postseason.
A three-time NBA Coach of the Year, Popovich has spent his entire head-coaching career with the Spurs, who improved to 23-20 on the season with Saturday’s win.
This is a developing story. More to come.
