Cape Town – Cape Town City and Highlands Park played to a drab 0-0 draw in an Absa Premiership clash at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
In front of a sparse crowd, both teams lacked the necessary cutting edge in the final third of the pitch to make any difference to the score.
The Citizens suffered an early blow when their top goal-scorer this season, Kermit Erasmus, was forced to be substituted in the first half due to a hamstring injury.
Shane Roberts had a good opportunity to give the City the lead but his effort was stopped by Highlands goalkeeper Marlon Heugh.
Erasmus’ replacement, Fagrie Lakay, then completely missed an inviting cross from the right when good contact would have seen the ball hit the back of the net.
The visitors had a quiet start to the game in terms of their attacking prowess but would have been the happier of the two sides as they went into the halftime break with the game still goalless.
The Lions of the North should have the lead early in the second stanza but Peter Shalulile had his shot cleared off the line from point-blank range.
The game did not really kick into top gear and both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.
