Sources: MLS terminates Jesse Gonzalez’s contract


Major League Soccer has terminated the contract of FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the decision.

The goalkeeper has been suspended since June 6th after a report to the Frisco Police Department alleging incidents of domestic abuse. MLS announced it would conduct an independent investigation into the incident and Gonzalez proactively entered the league’s substance abuse and behavioral health program. Ultimately that process ended in a mutual decision to terminate Gonzalez’s contract.

A spokesperson for FC Dallas declined to comment.

The 25-year-old homegrown goalkeeper has started 101 regular season games since 2015, including 32 games in 2019. Gonzalez and FC Dallas agreed in January to a new four-year deal that was set to run through 2023. The FCD academy product was signed to his first homegrown deal in 2013.
