Source: Miami ‘goes all in’ on Oregon coach Mario Cristobal, Clemson AD Dan Radakovich

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami has always had a reputation for being frugal when it comes to running its athletic department. Those days, though, are clearly in the rearview mirror.

Miami’s administration — in its pursuit to revive its once-proud championship football program — has thrown some hefty contract offers toward Oregon football coach Mario Cristobal and Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich in the last 24 hours, sources confirmed to The Athletic.

Cristobal, who won two national titles at Miami as a player in 1989 and 1991 and has compiled a 62-60 record, was expected to be offered a contract that would exceed the reported $7 million per season extension Oregon offered him Friday.

Meanwhile, Radakovich, who earned his master’s degree in business administration from Miami in 1982 and started his career in the Hurricanes athletic department in 1983, was offered a significant raise from the $800,000 he’s making as Clemson’s AD – more than double his salary, a source said.

“We’re all in,” a high-ranking Miami source told The Athletic on Friday. “Winning on the football field is very important to us.”

Despite some reports to the contrary, Radakovich, 63, had yet to accept Miami’s overtures on Friday, but was expected to meet with Miami officials on Saturday to iron out more details. According to sources close to him, he’s excited by the thought of returning to the school where he met his wife and by the challenge of helping Miami return to its glory days. Radakovich, who has been at Clemson since 2012, is one of three finalists to replace Blake James, who was fired on Nov. 15.
