Sorry, not sorry: Bucs escape with 25-23 victory over Giants


EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Tampa Bay Bucs’ victory Monday night was far from pretty, and that could be said long before the one-win-all-year Giants drove 70 yards for a last-minute touchdown, getting within a two-point conversion of forcing overtime.

Bucs rookie safety Antoine Winfield broke up the pass on that deciding two-point try, and the flag thrown on the play was waved off after officials decided no penalty had been committed, allowing the Bucs to escape MetLife Stadium with a 25-23 win.

“You never apologize for winning,” Bucs coach Bruce Arians said after the game. “We did not find energy fast enough. We got hit in the mouth. Credit (Giants coach) Joe Judge. He had his team ready and they played their tails off. We made enough plays to win the game. . . . We made the plays that counted.”

There was plenty not to apologize for, of course.
