SMU’s Reggie Roberson caught a deflected Hail Mary pass from Tanner Mordecai on the final play of the game to help the Mustangs beat Louisiana Tech 39-37 on Saturday.
SMU entered the fourth quarter with a 33-28 lead before Louisiana Tech scored nine unanswered points, including a 47-yard field goal from Jacob Barnes with 36 seconds left. Mordecai’s 33-yard heave was deflected by the 6-foot-3 Rashee Rice to Roberson.
SMU is 3-0 for the third consecutive season under head coach Sonny Dykes.
Mordecai threw for 395 yards and five touchdowns, outdueling fellow former Oklahoma quarterback Austin Kendall (351 yards, four touchdowns).
