KANSAS CITY — Tangy and tart flavors are trending in new summertime releases.

Hippeas Organic Chickpea Snacks has relaunched its tortilla-style chips, adding a sea salt and lime flavor to the line. The reformulated snack has a crunchier texture than the previous iteration, according to the company.

A new summertime collection by Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams includes watermelon taffy, golden nectar, butterscotch popcorn and sundae cone ice cream flavors. A dairy-free lemon bar frozen dessert is made with lemon, shortbread crust and coconut cream.

Talking Rain Beverage Co., the maker of Sparkling Ice, is launching a new caffeinated offering featuring a watermelon lemonade flavor.

“Watermelon and lemonade are two flavors paired perfectly together for energy seekers looking for full flavor and an extra boost of caffeine while on the go.” said Sarah Gustat, executive vice president of marketing at Talking Rain Beverage Co.

Popcorn brand Opopop is introducing limited-edition pickle-flavored kernels. The company offers pre-flavored microwave popcorn in offerings including salty caramel, Maui heat and butter.

“Here at Opopop, we want to keep pushing the boundaries of flavor in our popcorn — Pickle Monster takes us into the ‘tart’ space, adding to our sweet, savory and spicy lineup,” said Alec Hopkins, vice president of product and insights at Opopop. “We work hard to bring innovation and excitement to popcorn lovers. Our new dill pickle Flavored Wrapped Kernels deliver a big and bold flavor in a fun summertime snack. Opopop fans and pickle lovers alike are going to love it.”
