Sharks defenseman Nikolai Knyzhov will undergo surgery this week on a lower-body injury and will miss eight to 10 weeks, the team said on Sunday. Knyzhov will have surgery on Friday.
The 23-year-old was the Sharks’ rookie of the year last season after posting 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) and 41 penalty minutes in 59 games. He spent the majority of the season paired with two-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson.
The Sharks won their season opener 4-3 against the Jets on Saturday.
