The Argentine was unveiled at Barcelona earlier this week after moving to Catalonia from the North West having left the Premier League champions on a free following their defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League final.

However, the 33-year-old’s father has confirmed that a follow up PCR test has displayed a negative result, meaning that the striker should be available for Argentina’s two World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia, and then the Copa America later this month.

‘He took five tests last week and yesterday’s AFA test was positive but they already did another more complex test and it was negative,’ his father, Leonel del Castillo, confirmed to on radio station radio La Red. ‘So yesterday’s was a false positive.’

The latest development comes as a boost following Aguero’s 33rd birthday on Tuesday, and his partner, Sofia Calzetti, made mention of his positive test in a social post.

The former City marksman previously tested positive for Covid in January this year and missed ten games with the illness.
