Sans Saudi Cup Invite, Millionaire Math Wizard Will Target Oaklawn’s Razorback

Trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. is disappointed that his stable star Math Wizard has not been extended an invitation to the $20 million Saudi Cup next month, but he’s been busy making other plans for the 4-year-old son of Algorithms. According to drf.com, Joseph will point the colt to the Grade 3, $500,000 Razorback Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 17.

“They keep telling us we’re way down on the invitation list, not even on the bubble, although they haven’t officially put out any list to my knowledge,” Joseph told drf.com. “This news coming after they had been leading us to believe for months that we were in the race. So at the moment, the plan is to bring him back in the Razorback and if he were to run well maybe point to Dubai for either the World Cup or the [Godolphin Mile].”

Math Wizard broke through last season with a win in the G1 Pennsylvania Derby, and was most recently fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Through 14 lifetime starts the colt has amassed three wins, two seconds, and three thirds for earnings of over $1 million.
