Ryan Giggs will not take charge of Wales in international break


What have the Welsh FA said?

“The Football Association of Wales and Ryan Giggs have mutually agreed that he will not be involved in the upcoming international camp.

“Our agreed immediate priority is preparing the team for the upcoming international matches.

“Robert Page, with Ryan’s support, will take charge for the next three matches against the USA, Republic of Ireland and Finland supported by Albert Stuivenberg.

“The Cymru squad for these upcoming matches will be announced on Thursday 5th November. “The FAW will not be making any further comment at this current time.”

Who will take charge in his place?

Assistant coach Page will take charge of the Wales national team for the next three matches against the United States, Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Former Watford captain Page was promoted to join Giggs’ coaching staff for the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

He previously worked for the Welsh FA as Under-21 manager.

What happened?

Police were called to the house of Giggs just after 10pm on Sunday amid reports of “a disturbance.”

He was subsequently questioned on suspicion of actual bodily harm and assault before being released on bail.

He was questioned by Greater Manchester Police before being bailed pending further inquiries.

Giggs, 46, denies all allegations made against him and a spokesperson said he is cooperating with police after the alleged incident at his home in Worsley.

What has Giggs said?

A statement was published on behalf of Giggs on Tuesday morning.

It read: “Mr Giggs denies all allegations of assault made against him. He is cooperating with the police and will continue to assist them with their ongoing investigations.”

What have the police said?

In a statement provided to The Sun newspaper, Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called at 10.05 pm on Sunday to reports of a disturbance.

“A woman in her 30s sustained minor injuries but did not require any treatment.

“A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault and section 39 common assault.”
