A rookie card of Pittsburgh Pirates legend Honus Wagner sold for more than $1.4 million on Saturday at the Goldin Auctions October Legends Auction.

The price was record-breaking for a low-graded version of the rare T206 card — the highlight of the auction.

Wagner played shortstop for 21 years from 1897-1917 and spent 18 of those years in Pittsburgh. The eight-time National League batting champion won the World Series with the Pirates in 1909. His No. 33 jersey number is retired in Pittsburgh.

He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
