- Although Koeman is short of options he may elect to protect the 29-year-old
The 29-year-old, who has spent his entire career so far at Barcelona, was targeted with jeers and boos from some fans during the 3-0 defeat at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week. There were also whistles directed at Roberto when he was substituted.
Roberto was said to be left in floods of tears and, as reported by Marca, Koeman may now leave him out at home to Granada on Monday.

Capable of playing at right-back or in midfield, Roberto’s versatility is seen as useful by Koeman, who is without a host of players due to injury.
Sergio Dest could be deployed at right-back, with a youngster such as Nico Gonzalez, Gavi or Yusuf Demir potentially starting in midfield.
Despite the criticism he has received, Roberto is in line to sign a new contract with Barcelona, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.
It is anticipated that Roberto will put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension.
Gerard Pique jumped to Roberto’s defence following the treatment he received against Bayern.

As reported by Marca, Pique said: ‘The whistles hurt me a lot because I know Sergi Roberto and he is a spectacular person who loves this club.
‘I’d remind people that full-back isn’t his natural position. He is a midfielder, but makes sacrifices to adapt and play other positions.
‘People are free to protest, but it hurts me to hear it.’
Roberto has made 308 appearances for Barcelona since making his debut in 2010.
