Roger Federer’s post-Wimbledon schedule revealed by Ivan Ljubicic, 2020 talks planned

Federer has had his busiest year since 2015 after opting to play the clay-court season for the first time since 2016.

The Swiss has won titles in Dubai, Miami and Halle and been runner-up in Indian Wells and most recently Wimbledon, where he was beaten by Novak Djokovic in dramatic circumstances.

The sixth ATP Masters 1000 event of the year gets underway next Monday in Montreal with the Rogers Cup.

Federer has already confirmed he will not be playing in Canada but began training on hard courts this week with his coach Ivan Ljubicic.

Speaking to Croatian media, Ljubicic confirmed Federer will play the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai in October and may also enter Paris-Bercy in November, which is the event prior to the season-ending ATP Finals.

Federer will also lead Team Europe in the Laver Cup in Geneva after the US Open.

“The first tournament back is in Cincinnati. I do not know yet if I will go or Severin Luthi will,” Ljubicic said.

“Then in the US Open, we will go together to Shanghai, Basel, maybe Paris Bercy, ATP Finals.

“Then we will sit and talk for 2020. If you want to do something in tennis, you have to be ready to pack and travel.”

Ljubicic then opened up on life on the road with Federer as he combines the hectic tennis schedule with family and business affairs.

“It’s not difficult for me,” he said.

“Who would not be happy to travel with someone like Roger? I have travelled before him, too.

“Everything becomes normal in a very quick way. I love tennis, the Tour, I will not stop travelling when Roger stops playing or when we will stop working.”

“For me it’s not complicated, of course, I cannot stay around for 40 weeks a year due to my family duties. But 20-25 weeks is okay.

“Ten weeks are not enough, because what can you do for 10 weeks? The Grand Slams last three weeks themselves, which is 12 in total.”
