Roger Federer to add extra event to 2019 schedule as blockbuster match lined up

Roger Federer is expected to add another event to his 2019 schedule – an exhibition clash with Alexander Zverev in Chile.

The pair are set to clash at the Movistar Arena on November 19 – just two days after the ATP Finals final.

Federer will reportedly follow in the footsteps of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, who played an exhibition match in Santiago six years ago.

The Swiss star is already down to face Juan Martin del Potro in another friendly tie in Argentina on November 20.

That showdown will clash with the newly revamped Davis Cup finals, held in Madrid from November 18 to 24.

Federer also has a third exhibition showdown against Key Nishikori on October 14 in Tokyo.

The world No 3 also has four remaining ATP events penned into a congested final couple of months of the season.

Federer is due to play the Shanghai Masters, Swiss Indoors, Paris Masters and ATP Finals.

But he is still expected bolster his calendar with a financially lucrative tie against Zverev.

Both players were together last weekend and they helped Team Europe win the Laver Cup for a third year in a row.

The experienced Federer, along with Rafael Nadal, coached Zverev through a difficult final clash with Milos Raonic which secured the trophy.

Zverev said: “You know, it’s been absolutely amazing. Actually, Rafa and Roger helped me a lot before the tiebreak and going into our locker room where we had a little bit of a break, and they gave me a lot of nice words, a lot of positivity.

“And how they were on the bench and how everybody was on the bench was an unbelievable feeling for me to win in the end.”

Federer and Zverev will return to action at the Shanghai Masters on October 5.
