Roger Federer tests new piece of equipment in hint at change for the US Open

Roger Federer, who has won 20 Grand Slams, has always used Wilson rackets.

He currently has the Pro Staff in his locker with the company specially making the RF97 for the Swiss star.

But now Wilson have released a video showing Federer using a new racket, but he’s set to stick with the RF97 for the upcoming US Open.

The video shows the 37-year-old, who lost in the Wimbledon final to Novak Djokovic earlier this month, using Wilson’s Clash racket.

But the company captioned the video with: “Roger Federer switching to Clash?

“No. He will continue to use his Pro Staff RF97, but as a dedicated partner to the brand, he is always playtesting and providing feedback on all of our newest innovations!”

Federer has previously spoken about his relationship with Wilson and how much changing a racket can help his game.

He switched to a 97 square-inch frame in 2014, and the legend believes it helped his game.

“I think the backhand has gotten better because I have been able to put in so many hours onto the racquet now,” he previously said.

“I feel super comfortable with the racquet, and I think I have gained confidence stepping into it.

“I think it was the work that I had in [the offseason]. You never play 10 backhand-to-backhand shots, but in practice you practice those a ton and eventually they are ingrained in the system.

“You need good footwork, because if the footwork is not good, you won’t be on top of the ball.

“I was having so much success, I felt so great with the old racket that I changed to in 2002 and then there were some variations to that racket all the way till 2014.

“I think it was the right time for me to change, I was happy to change.

“I was always talking to Wilson about what else could we create with technology because string technology has had a huge impact in tennis in recent years.

“Also racket technology has been tremendous what we have seen in the changes from wooden rackets to what we play on.

“That was unbelievable. So I was always open but it was difficult to make major changes, especially on the racket head size.

“But when I had all the back problems in 2013, you know what, let’s use that extra time in testing and that’s where I felt the time was right for me to make a change.

“I am happy I did because it paid off and now I can hit easier aggressive attacking tennis because before it was not that simple.”
