Roger Federer fires US Open warning to Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic

Roger Federer has warned his main rivals that he feels confident of winning the US Open title.

There were questions over where Federer’s confidence levels would be at after losing to Andrey Rublev in the Cincinnati Masters last week.

However, the Swiss star feels he needed to be brought back down to earth after a strong start to the season.

Federer has been drawn in the same half of the US Open as world No 1 Novak Djokovic – but he does not fear competing against his rivals on the biggest stages,

“What I am very proud of is that I have had a very consistent last year or two years,” Federer said at his pre-tournament press conference,” Federer said at his pre-tournament press conference.

“I have been playing well in Slams again recently which has been great.

“The win over [Rafael Nadal] in the [Wimbledon] semis was big for me and the way I played at Wimbledon is going to give me some extra confidence.

“I am happy with where my game is at. Cincinnati, it might be a good thing that I lost early, who knows.

“It is one of them things like sometimes it needs to happen like when I won the Australian Open and went to Dubai and lost first round.

“I then went on to win Indian Wells and Miami.

“I had a great Wimbledon and needed to get knocked down in Cincinnati, get my act together and train hard.

“I am ready for the US Open now the draw is out, although I’m still waiting to see which qualifier I will play.

“It is going to be a tough tournament to win, no doubt about it, but I feel like I’m part of that group that can do it.”

Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are the pre-tournament favourites as they have shared the Grand Slam titles this year.

Djokovic was successful in Australian and at Wimbledon while Nadal continued his clay dominance at the French Open.
