Robert Covington traded from Rockets to Blazers for Trevor Ariza, pick: Trade Grades


The mass exodus of the Houston Rockets continues this offseason with the franchise deciding to move on quickly from Robert Covington. Mike D’Antoni is gone, after deciding to not even attempt to negotiate for a chance to coach this team again. Those talks fell apart prior to last season. Daryl Morey is gone, after deciding to part ways with the team and pretty quickly take over the Philadelphia 76ers. Now Russell Westbrook wants out of Houston after one year and there are numerous reports about James Harden having a wandering eye to somewhere outside of the Toyota Center.

So could trading a valuable role player like Robert Covington with two years and $25 million left for an old role player and a draft pick be a good signal for the Rockets? Probably not. Kelly Iko of The Athletic has confirmed the trade of Covington to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for familiar face Trevor Ariza and the 16th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
