RMIT University in partnership with Infinite Learning has officially launched its first short courses in Cyber Security at Nongsa Digital Park (NDP) in Indonesia, as part of a strategic partnership signed between the two institutions in late 2021.
The inaugural courses in Cyber Security will be delivered by RMIT’s College of Vocational Education, and form part of the University’s Future Technologies cluster.
Around 20 students will undertake the Introduction to Cyber Security (2-day workshop) and Cyber Security Essentials (5-day workshop) at Nongsa Digital Park, located on Batam Island in Indonesia.
The launch of the new courses on May 17 reflects RMIT’s expanded presence in the Asia-Pacific and its continued focus on developing partnerships to help address critical workforce skills gaps in the region.
RMIT’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global Professor Peter Coloe said the University was pleased that its long history of providing learning partnerships in the region was continuing to help organisations and whole sectors upskill for current and future jobs.
“RMIT has played an active role in the Asia-Pacific region for more than 30 years and it is exciting that students of our new Cyber Security courses will join a 50,000-strong alumni cohort in the region,” he said.
“Our partnership with Infinite Learning positions RMIT in the digital epicentre of the Asia-Pacific, as we continue to work with partner institutions in response to government and workforce needs,” he said.
Infinite Learning is the Educational Division of Infinite Studios (IS), a global media leader in TV, film and animation, which works with international giants such as Warner Media, Disney and Netflix, and is part of the Group that owns and operates Nongsa Digital Park, a high-profile tech hub supported by the Indonesian and Singapore governments.
Located on Batam Island, Indonesia, Nongsa Digital Park has been described as a ‘digital bridge’ connecting Indonesia to Singapore and the rest of the world and key to driving the digital economy in the region.
In 2020, it was granted Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status by the Indonesian government and has the advantage of high-quality broadband connectivity.
Nongsa Digital Park and Infinite Studios Senior Executive Director Marco Bardelli said the launch of the inaugural Cyber Security courses was an exciting next step in its partnership with RMIT to help educate and prepare local talent so they can contribute to the growth and security of the region’s digital sector.
“With a base in one of the region’s most exciting tech hubs, RMIT, together with Infinite Learning, is well placed to provide specialist vocational courses to a market that has a strong appetite for building capability in a fast-evolving digital sector,” he said.
RMIT’s College of Vocational Education Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Mish Eastman said the two new intensive courses will “give students the skills they need for the jobs of the future in the cyber security sector.”
“By offering the most in-demand and relevant training to students, these new courses will let students discover the world of cyber security and its impact and learn valuable security principles to defend networks” Eastman said.
The Introduction to Cyber Security 2-day intensive course is designed for beginners to develop an understanding of the world of cyber security and its impact, as well as the most common threats, attacks and vulnerabilities.
The Cyber Security Essentials 5-day intensive course is an intermediate level course designed to give students an understanding of cybercrime, security principles, technologies and procedures used to defend networks.
