Rivalry Series Notebook: U.S. Women Begin Winter Camp in Hartford

WELCOME TO CAMP

Players and staff arrived in Hartford from far and wide this morning for the opening day of the four-day camp. Seventeen states are represented at this year’s winter camp. Minnesota leads the way with 13 athletes calling the State of Hockey home. Of the 46 athletes invited to the training camp, 21 are active NCAA players, while 25 are postgraduates.

OPENING PRACTICE

Energy was high as the players suited up with their respective camp squads, Team Blue and Team Red, to begin training. Following dinner, players took the ice for a night-time practice session that included drills, small-ice games and off-ice icebreakers to help the 46 players get to know one another.

MEDIA DAY

Before taking the ice for practice, defensemen Cayla Barnes (Eastvale, Calif.) and Megan Keller (Farmington Hills, Mich.), and forward Amanda Kessel (Madison, Wis.) spent the afternoon visiting local networks and radio stations to promote the opening contest of the 2019-20 Rivalry Series. Questions ranged from what it means to represent the United States, to current favorite television shows.
