Retama Park: Simulcasting Resumes June 5, Live Racing Returns July 3

Retama Park is pleased to announce it will reopen for simulcasting this Friday, June 5, and will offer wagering on races from racetracks throughout North America on a Wednesday through Sunday schedule. The track will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays until further notice.

Simulcasting will be conducted exclusively on the Grandstand Level of the main building (2nd floor) at up to 25% of that floor’s total listed capacity. The Texas Minimum Standard Heath Protocols for opening simulcasting will be in effect, including social distancing, frequent hand washing and recommended wearing of masks. See gov.texas.gov/organization/opentexas for more information on these requirements.

Subject to Texas Racing Commission approval, live racing is set to start on Friday, July 3 with a revised schedule which will feature Quarter Horse racing exclusively for a 24-day meet. Retama Park is monitoring the announcements of the state’s plans regarding crowds and sporting events and will make a determination close to the start of the meet regarding areas that will be accessible for live racing. Racing will be conducted Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays through August 29, with no racing on a pair of Saturdays – August 8 and August 22. Daily overnight purses for the meet are expected to be a Retama Park record of approximately $150,000 per day.

“We want to thank all the racing stakeholders in the state who were supportive of the changes to the upcoming meet and are looking forward to a successful start on the holiday weekend,” said Retama Park General Manager Angela Cooper.

This Friday the gates will open at 10:30 A.M., with Gulfstream’s first race set for 11:00 A.M.. Other major tracks running that day include Laurel Park, Churchill Downs, Belmont, Ruidoso, Santa Anita, Golden Gate, Charles Town, Fair Meadows, Evangeline and Los Alamitos.
