Report: Rockets trade center Christian Wood to Mavericks for No. 26 pick, four players


The Houston Rockets traded center Christian Wood to the Dallas Mavericks in a deal that sends four players and the No. 26 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft back to Houston, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Houston will reportedly receive Boban Marjanovic, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke, and Marquese Chriss along with the late first-round selection.

Wood, 26, was acquired by the Rockets in a sign-and-trade deal in 2020 and led the team in both scoring and rebounding during the 2021-22 season. He averaged 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds, but Houston finished with an NBA-worst 20-62 record.

While the Mavericks managed to reach the Western Conference Finals, the team finished the season 24th in the NBA in rebounds with 43.0 per game. Guard Luka Doncic led the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals during the regular season.

All four players headed to Houston were backups for the Mavericks during the 2021-22 season. 

In addition to the newly acquired No. 26 pick in the first round, the Rockets also own the No. 3 and 17 selections in the 2022 NBA Draft.
