Report: Marvin Lewis is ‘strong contender’ for Redskins head coach job

The Washington Redskins may be going with a very experienced hand as their next head coach.

According to Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio, former Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis is a “strong contender” for the vacant Washington head coaching job, and may have already interviewed for the position.

It wouldn’t come as a shock to see Lewis back in the NFL again. We have heard he wants to coach there, and 16 years of NFL experience is a valuable commodity these days. He went 131-122-3 as head coach of the Bengals, restoring the franchise to respectability.

The knock on Lewis in Cincinnati was his failure to win a playoff game during that lengthy period, going 0-7 and losing five years in a row at one point. Washington would love to consistently get playoff games, so they’d probably be happy to deal with that record.
