Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer was banned from racetracks owned by The Stronach Group on June 22, but documents filed in the Alameda County Superior Court indicate that his barn was under increased scrutiny as early as mid-May, before his third trainee died at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif., according to the Los Angeles Times.
Judge Noel Wise is expected to rule next Friday on a temporary restraining order which could allow Hollendorfer to race at Stronach Group-owned Golden Gate Fields near San Francisco, similar to the one issued in San Diego Superior Court permitting the Hall of Fame trainer to race horses at Del Mar.
Court filings under the judge’s review include a declaration from Santa Anita racing veterinarian Dr. Dana Stead and a deposition of Stronach’s chief veterinary officer, Dr. Dionne Benson. The allegations include “negligence,” asking a veterinarian to sign the form to work a horse off the vet’s list and telling that vet if he or she didn’t, Hollendorfer would find another vet who would.
Hollendorfer’s attorney plans to file declarations refuting the accusations.
