Relentless Martinelli shows quality with and without the ball in Arsenal’s fluid front three


Gabriel Martinelli has never looked like one to waste his time.

Goals on his unofficial club debut in pre-season, his first official start in the Carabao Cup and his European debut saw his stock soar despite Unai Emery losing control of his ship.

That strong impression continued through Freddie Ljungberg’s interim tenure as he bagged his first Premier League goal on his first start, and has remained evident under Mikel Arteta. He kept up this relentless habit when he returned to Arsenal’s league line-up, scoring against Sheffield United on Sunday.

Given a taste of the action in recent weeks off the bench, his appetite for a start was clear from the whistle.
