Redskins Film Room: Breaking down the Bow concept


This is the second installment of our series looking at some of the Redskins core passing concepts. Previously we looked at the Arrow concept, today, we move on to the Bow concept, which works hand in hand with the Arrow. It’s so similar, in fact, that it’s called Bow because it’s the Arrow concept with just a slight tweak. The corner route of the Arrow concept turns into a basic cross.

The read for this play differs from the Arrow concept in that while the Arrow concept is read low to high, the Bow concept is read high to low. The basic cross is the primary read of the concept and the quarterback then works back to the spot before dumping off to the running back as a check-down option. The basic cross and the spot route work as a nice combination against underneath zone defenders, giving the quarterback a high-low read.
