Redskins Film Room: Breaking down the Arrow concept


In this new series, we’ll be taking a closer look at some of the Redskins common passing concepts and breaking down how they work, from what formations they’re run, what other concepts they might be paired with and how the quarterback reads them. Today, we’re breaking down the Arrow concept.

The Arrow is one of the most basic and common concepts in the NFL, particularly in west coast offenses. It’s also known as Spot. The concept involves three receivers, two executing a basic corner-flat route combination while the third spots up in between them.

 

This is the most basic way the Redskins run the Arrow concept. The formation is called “Gun Double Right Close” and the concept would be tagged after the formation and protection, in this case it would be called “Flanker Arrow”, which tells the flanker or the Z receiver to run the spot route on the arrow concept, and the tight end and the running back to run the other parts of…
