Reds player’s positive COVID-19 test postpones weekend games


­UPDATE: The Reds’ games against the Pirates on Saturday and Sunday have been postponed, Major League Baseball announced Saturday morning. MLB confirmed The Athletic’s report of a Reds player testing positive for COVID-19.

The postponement will allow for additional testing and contact tracing.

ORIGINAL REPORT: A Reds player has tested positive for COVID-19, sources tell The Athletic. The Reds defeated the Pirates on Friday in the second game of a four-game series. The status of the rest of the series at Great American Ball Park is unknown.

The Athletic does not publish the names of players or team personnel who have tested positive for COVID-19 unless those leagues, teams or players have already identified them publicly.

The Reds were scheduled to play the Pirates on Saturday and Sunday, but those games have been postponed. The Reds are off Monday before scheduled games in Kansas City and St. Louis.
