Ramon Vazquez Wins Five Straight Races At Remington Park

Babaknowsevrything wins race seven on Nov. 26, to give jockey Ramon Vazquez his fifth consecutive winner during a special Tuesday afternoon racing program at Remington Park. Vazquez won races three through seven to score five in a row

Jockey Ramon Vazquez only had six mounts on the special holiday week Tuesday eight-race card at Remington Park, but he won with five of them, making the most of the matinee.

The only one he couldn’t get to the winner’s circle was Rare Poppy in the final race of the program. Otherwise, he won with New Mexico ($7.60 to win) in the third race and Mighty Merle ($11.60) in the fourth for trainer Steve Asmussen, Polly Tiz ($4) in the fifth for Martin Lozano, Left Coast Dreams ($6.80) in the sixth for Durk Peery, and Babaknowsevrything ($8.80) in the seventh for Karl Broberg. His win in the sixth was a dead-heat with jockey Richard Eramia’s mount Archie as they came to the wire together.

The five consecutive wins moved Vazquez into third place in the riders’ standings with 53 wins on the meet, one ahead of Stewart Elliott. He remained behind leading rider David Cabrera at 70 wins and Richard Eramia, who moved up to 55 wins, in second. Cabrera was shut out on his 27th birthday. In fifth is Luis Quinonez with 29 wins.

The featured eighth race on the card was won by jockey Garrett Steinberg aboard 10-1 longshot Northern Dynasty, who paid $22.40 to win, $12.40 to place and $8.20 to show across the board. She came from off the pace to swallow the front-runners in the stretch, going six-wide for the win. The last time Steinberg was in the irons for this filly, he was also a winner that night, on Sept. 6, scoring at 7-1 odds then. Erik McNeil then rode Northern Dynasty on the grass on Oct. 5 and finished fifth. With Steinberg back up in the saddle, the 3-year-old filly by Northern Afleet from the Thunderello mare Big City Woman, responded again with the win.

Tuesday night’s race was a 6-1/2 furlongs sprint that Northern Dynasty won in a time of 1:19.71 seconds over a fast track.
