Raiders’ QB Derek Carr says throwing deep is ‘becoming who we are’

Back in training camp, Derek Carr would throw a deep pass to rookie Henry Ruggs III. Then, on the next play, he would take a shot to Bryan Edwards, and then uncork one to Nelson Agholor.

“We had all our horses and there were some days where we were like taking shot after shot after shot seeing which ones we liked for the season,” Carr said after practice on Wednesday.

The Raiders are 3-3 and while the offensive line and running game have struggled of late, Carr is letting the ball fly in what is a good omen for the rest of the season. He has completed 6 of 12 passes that travel 20 yards or more downfield the last two games, after going a combined 6 for 10 the first four weeks. The 12 attempts match a two-week high for Carr and coach Jon Gruden in their three seasons together.

“Yeah, it’s something that when we get all our guys rolling and healthy, that’s a part of what Coach wants to do,” Carr said.
