Rafael Nadal set to face Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon for first time since 'super salty' slam

Paul Jubb has been drawn to play world No.66 Joao Sousa in his first ever Wimbledon match – and will face former finalist Marin Cilic if he reaches the second round.

But the highlight is Rafael Nadal and Kyrgios being set on collision course following controversial comments made by the Aussie bad boy last month.

In a podcast, he said: “He’s my polar opposite, like literally my polar opposite. And he’s super salty.

“Every time I’ve beaten him … when he wins, it’s fine. He won’t say anything bad, he’ll credit the opponent, ‘He was a great player’.

“But as soon as I beat him, it’s just like, ‘He has no respect for me, my fans and no respect to the game’.

“And I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? I literally played this way when I beat you the other previous times and nothing changed … When you beat me in Rome here a couple of years ago, nothing changed; I was the same person’.

“It’s not a good look for you, I feel. And then Uncle Toni (Nadal) came out saying, ‘He lacks education’. I’m like, ‘Bra, I did 12 years at school, you idiot. I’m very educated. I understand that you’re upset I beat your family again’.”

Kyrgios, who will face an Aussie derby with Jordan Thompson in his opening match, also slagged off Novak Djokovic and Fernando Verdasco.

Asked if this would give his opponents future motivation to beat him, the Aussie said: “I think if I play Novak he’d just be determined to get one win against me, and I have played Rafa a bunch of times. We have beaten each other, as well.

“I think they are motivated to beat me in general. I don’t think before those comments they were, like: ‘Oh, I don’t really care’. They wanted to beat me regardless. My opinions won’t change.”

Dan Evans and James Ward will meet in a second round Battle of Britain if they come through their opening matches against Federico Delbonis and No.18 seed Nikoloz Basilashvili respectively.

She got her wish in today’s draw as she will play the five-time Wimbledon champion in the opening round on Monday.
