Rafael Nadal sent Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic warning ahead of Australian Open final

Nadal missed much of 2021 due to a foot injury and Wilander is delighted to see the 35-year-old back to his best.

The Swede added: “I think [if] Rafael Nadal [ends up] winning on Sunday, the most important part for that would be that he’s back at the top of the game, that he’s back trusting his body, his confidence has come back and he’s able to stay with these much younger guys in this game that just becomes quicker and quicker.

“One day, when he’s in his mid-fifties, he’ll start thinking about how many majors he has won, but I don’t think that’s on his mind at all at the moment.”

Following his win over Berrettini, Nadal revealed he considered retiring from tennis due to the pain his foot injury was causing him.
