Rafael Nadal makes Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic Wimbledon prediction

Nadal has not won the British Grand Slam since 2010 but he is edging closer to Federer’s all-time major tournament record.

The Spaniard scooped his 18th Grand Slam title at the French Open last month, taking him to within two of Federer’s tally.

World No 1 Djokovic is the defending champion and top seed at the All England Club next month.

And Nadal reckons the Serbian will be a front runner for the title, alongside Federer.

“On the rivals of always, they will be the ones that touch me, but the candidates for the title are Federer, Djokovic,” Nadal told Movistar.

“There are young people who are playing well and we have to see how they compete in Wimbledon.

“It’s a special tournament, different from the others, there are more options for surprises and that makes it a unique tournament.

“Many players get there playing their first game on the surface, so it is a bit more incognito.”

Nadal is one of those stars heading into the third Grand Slam of the year without any grass action under his belt.

The world No 2 is competing at an exhibition event at Hurlingham, where he will play matches against Marin Cilic and Lucas Pouille.

Meanwhile, former world No 22 Tomas Carbonell thinks Federer will not be as competitive this year.

“Nadal is not just a tennis player, he crosses borders and when he goes anywhere in the world,” he told Marca.

“That place is paralysed, nobody is prepared for a tennis without Rafa, but in Spain we will have to do it the best we can

“As good as Federer is, at 37 years two weeks of competition are very long.

“At Wimbledon Rafa has many rivals and on the ground he is the best. Can he win? Of course.”
