Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic arrive in Australia to begin ATP Cup preparations


Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have both landed in Australia to prepare for the ATP Cup in Australia. The season-opening tournament starts on January 3 and sees 24 countries compete across Sydney, Brisbane and Perth to win the event.

Nadal arrived in Perth with his Spanish team-mates Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno Busta, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Feliciano Lopez.

He said: “We are looking forward to playing good here in the ATP Cup.

“And then we are going to have one week in Melbourne before the tournament starts to prepare for the Australian Open.

“We are excited to be here and to try to compete well in this great event.”

While Djokovic is in Brisbane with Dusan Lajovic, Nikola Milojevic, Viktor Troicki, Nikola Cacic.

He said: “It’s great to be back. It has been a while since I was last here in Brisbane.

“I can’t wait for the inaugural ATP Cup. Australia always puts on a great show during January for tennis.

“And I’m sure the ATP Cup will be a blast.”

Murray will also miss the Australian Open and doesn’t anticipate returning until February.

“After the Australian Open earlier this year, when I wasn’t sure whether I’d be able to play again,” he said.

“I was excited about coming back to Australia and giving my best, and that makes this even more disappointing for me.

The next tournament on Murray’s schedule is the Open Sud de France in Montpellier.
