PSG 'will target Erling Haaland with Robert Lewandowski a back-up option' if Kylian Mbappe leaves

PSG ‘will target Erling Haaland with Robert Lewandowski a back-up option’ if Kylian Mbappe leaves for Real Madrid next summer with Parisians determined to bring in another prolific striker if French star departs

  • Kylian Mbappe’s Paris Saint-Germain contract is set to expire next summer
  • French striker is linked with a move to Real Madrid and could leave for nothing
  • Reports in France suggest PSG have already drawn up a shortlist of targets
  • Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland would be their No 1 choice
  • But they could move for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski as an alternative

Paris Saint-Germain ‘will target Erling Haaland or Robert Lewandowski’ if Kylian Mbappe leaves the club next year.

With France star Mbappe, 22, linked with a transfer to Real Madrid when his PSG contract expires next summer, the French club are drawing up a list of potential replacements.

The top priority for sporting director Leonardo is to sign the Borussia Dortmund forward Haaland, according to French website le10sport.com.

But if a deal can’t be done for the Norwegian, PSG will turn their attention to the equally prolific Bayern Munich striker Lewandowski.

21-year-old Haaland would naturally be the more long-term option and he comes with an extraordinary scoring record for Dortmund of 70 goals in 68 matches after Saturday’s double against Mainz.

Poland international Lewandowski is 33 but continues to score at a sensational rate for Bayern, including 13 in 10 matches so far this season.

The prospect of pairing Haaland or Lewandowski with Lionel Messi and Neymar in PSG’s attack is certainly a frightening one for their domestic and European rivals.

Mbappe would be able to leave PSG for nothing if his contract runs down next summer but talks are underway over a renewal.

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep Mbappe at the Parc des Princes but admitted last week that something will need to happen to ‘change his mind’ about a departure.

‘Mbappe is fine, he’s a calm boy with a lot of personality and a very sociable character, he is clear about things and loves football, he’s very mature for 22 years old,’ he told COPE and Radio MARCA

‘Kylian will make the decision he has to make and the club will do everything possible to keep him, because we’re taking about one of the best players in the world at 22.

‘I’m left with the fact that the situation is open and in the future anything can happen, the position of a few months ago may change in the future.

‘PSG as a club certainly have the ambition and ability to persuade him and offer him things so that he can stay and be happy, the possibilities that he could change his mind are there.’

Le10Sport also report that PSG would be interested in signing £50m-rated Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is also wanted by Tottenham and Newcastle
