PGA Tour says Dylan Frittelli tests positive for coronavirus

The PGA Tour announced that Dylan Frittelli tested positive for COVID-19 in screening ahead of the charter flight from Hartford, Connecticut to Detroit. He missed the cut at the Travelers and has withdrawn from the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He becomes the fourth golfer to test positive.

Frittelli, a 30-year-old native of South Africa, missed the cut at the Travelers Championship and has been withdrawn from next week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic field. He will have to self-isolate for the next 10-14 days, per Tour policy.

“I am experiencing no issues and feel great physically and was surprised and disappointed to learn of the positive test today,” said Frittelli, winner of the 2019 John Deere Classic.  “I’m thankful for the Whoop strap notification of a minor increase in my respiratory rate overnight.”

Frittelli is the fourth Tour player to test positive for coronavirus since it resumed play on June 11:

Nick Watney at RBC Heritage
Cameron Champ, Denny McCarthy at Travelers Championship

Also, Graeme McDowell, Brooks Koepka, Bud Cauley and Webb Simpson also withdrew this week out of “abundance of caution.”

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan announced on Wednesday that the Tour had enhanced its health and safety plan.

In all, 2,757 players, caddies and officials had been tested with seven positive tests during the past three weeks. Monahan refused to give a specific number of positive tests that would lead him to cancel a tournament or reconsider the upcoming schedule of events.
