The PGA Tour’s new streaming partner, ESPN+, kicked off its 4,300 hours of coverage this year in Hawaii during the first two tour stops of 2022.
This week, at The American Express, get those second and even third and fourth screens ready as ESPN+ turns on its four-channel experience.
ESPN+ took over the PGA Tour Live streaming rights from NBC Sports as part of a new nine-year media rights deal, which started with the new year. Golf fans got gobs of golf at the Sentry Tournament of Champions as well as the Sony Open in Hawaii with featured groups and featured holes, but when PGA West takes center stage this week, it’ll be the first of at least 28 tournaments with “four full days of coverage and four simultaneous live feeds each day.”
Main Feed, 11:30 a.m. ET
The primary tournament coverage stream. This feed will have action from across the golf course, with two dedicated booth announcers, a dedicated walking announcer and will make use of all the cameras at PGA West.
Featured Holes, 12:15 p.m. ET
This feed will focus on the key par-3 holes as well as course’s iconic, signature holes. For the Thursday and Friday at the American Express, that means the par-3 4th, the par-3 13th, the par-5 16th and the island-green 17th at PGA West.
Featured Groups, 12:15 p.m. ET
Traditional PGA Tour Live coverage of two groups, with two booth announcers and one walking announcer. Jimmy Walker and Charles Howell III will be featured on Thursday, with Russell Henley and Chris Kirk on Friday.
Marquee Group, 1:30 p.m. ET
For Thursday, it will be Gary Woodland and Matthew Wolff and Friday will be Jason Day and Justin Rose. Saturday and Sunday marquee groups will be announced later. Viewers watching this stream will see every shot from these players with two booth announcers and one walking announcer calling the action.
Further announcements about marquee and featured groups will be made as the tournament progresses, with Sunday’s groups determined once the final round tee times are announced.
The ESPN+ feeds will end at 7 p.m. ET each day. All ESPN+ subscribers can watch PGA Tour Live at no additional cost.
All this bonus coverage is in addition to the traditional TV coverage from Golf Channel, which will televise all four days at La Quinta, California. Over-the-air network coverage of weekend rounds on the PGA Tour starts next week with CBS at the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego.
