Penguins GM Jim Rutherford resigns

Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford has resigned due to personal reasons, the team announced on Wednesday. Patrik Allvin, the team’s assistant GM, has been promoted to interim GM.

Rutherford has been the Penguins’ GM since the 2014-15 season. Pittsburgh made the playoffs every year under Rutherford and won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017. The 71-year-old was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019.

This is a developing story. More to come.
