Pelicans' Zion Williamson out indefinitely with fractured ring finger

Things have gone from bad to worse for the playoff-hopeful New Orleans Pelicans this week.

Two days after it was determined that forward Brandon Ingram would miss at least Friday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers with a left low-ankle sprain, the Pelicans confirmed that star big man Zion Williamson is out indefinitely due to a fractured left ring finger. “A treatment plan and timetable for his return to play will be determined upon further evaluation,” New Orleans added in the brief statement.

The setbacks could not have come at a worse time for the Pelicans, as they trail the San Antonio Spurs by one and a half games in the race for 10th place and the final berth in the Western Conference play-in tournament. New Orleans will now be without their two leading scorers for at least the matchup against Philadelphia.

The Pelicans will play five consecutive road games before they host the Los Angeles Lakers on May 16 to end the regular season.

According to ESPN stats, Williamson leads New Orleans with 27.0 points per game and a player efficiency rating of 27.27.
