In an organization that values stability, the New Orleans Pelicans sure have a strange way of showing it.
Stan Van Gundy’s departure Wednesday means the club is working on its third coach in David Griffin’s three-year tenure as head of basketball operations. The next coach will be the seventh in the franchise’s two-decade history.
That’s a lot of change, even by the NBA’s transient standards.
And this one was the most surprisingly abrupt of all. Van Gundy didn’t even last nine months. He was probably still trying to familiarize himself with the layout of his Uptown home, and now he’s packing up again.
Something clearly changed in the last few days.
