Pegasus Preparations: Spun To Run Scopes ‘Clean’ After Breezing Without Lasix

When The Stronach Group announced that the 2020 Pegasus World Cup would be contested without the anti-bleeder medication, Lasix, trainer Juan Carlos Guerrero had to consider how that might affect his stable star, Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Spun to Run. According to drf.com, the trainer decided to test the 3-year-old son of Hard Spun by breezing him without Lasix.

Spun to Run covered four furlongs in :47.90 on Friday morning at Palm Meadows.

“I want to see how he does in the morning without it there,” Guerrero told drf.com. “If he bleeds working, he won’t run in Pegasus. So far, it’s very good. We scoped him after his work this morning and he was clean.”

Third in the G1 Haskell Invitational earlier this year, Spun to Run won the G3 Smarty Jones before finishing fifth in the G1 Pennsylvania Derby. Guerrero ran him back in a listed stakes race at Parx, which the colt won easily, setting him up for his front-running Breeders’ Cup success. Racing out of his barn at Parx, Spun to Run then put in a strong a second-place finish behind Maximum Security in the G1 Cigar Mile,

Spun to Run is being stabled in South Florida this winter, rather than at Parx, to take advantage of the warmer weather, Guerrero explained. The weather factor will also play a role in his ability to race without Lasix, Guerrero said.
