Patriots prepare to play Sunday even as more players hit COVID-19 reserve list


The COVID-19 outbreak has continued to wreak havoc on the Patriots.

Running back Sony Michel tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, and right guard Shaq Mason and defensive end Derek Rivers were deemed high-risk close contacts and placed on the COVID-19 reserve list, according to a source.

Despite the ongoing outbreak, the NFL has informed the Patriots and Broncos that their game will remain in place Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gillette Stadium, according to a source.

Michel, Mason and Rivers joined defensive tackle Byron Cowart and center James Ferentz on the COVID-19 list. Cowart tested positive Sunday, prompting the NFL to push back the Pats-Broncos game into Week 6. Ferentz tested positive Friday, resulting in Bill Belichick’s decision to cancel practice.
