Pair Of Impressive 2-Year-Olds Strutted Their Stuff At Santa Anita This Weekend


Devil Made Me Doit returns tot he winner’s circle after a romping debut win at Santa Anita Park on Saturday

On Saturday, a 2-year-old colt named Devil Made Me Doit won his debut race by 9 1/2 lengths to kick off the opening day card at Santa Anita Park. Completing six furlongs in 1:10.29, the $245,000 OBS June purchase made a big impression on race fans.

The Doug O’Neill-trained son of Daredevil earned an 87 Beyer for his effort, according to drf.com, as well as a place on many fans’ Kentucky Derby watch lists.

On Sunday, a 2-year-old filly was the top attraction when Venetian Harbor broke her maiden at second asking for trainer Richard Baltas. The daughter of Munnings ran 6 1/2 furlongs over Santa Anita’s fast main track in 1:15.60, earning a 94 Beyer Speed Figure for her 10 3/4-length romp. According to drf.com, that is the second-highest Beyer earned by a 2-year-old filly in 2019, trailing only Laurel Park Stakes winner Hello Beautiful.
