Pacers' Myles Turner day-to-day with avulsion fracture in hand

The Indiana Pacers confirmed on Tuesday that center Myles Turner is dealing with an avulsion fracture in his right hand and is considered day-to-day. “The injury is stable and will not require surgery,” Indiana said in its brief statement.

As Eric Woodyard of ESPN explained, Turner suffered the injury during last Thursday’s 111-87 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Woodyard added that the 24-year-old big man has met with two hand specialists and will be re-evaluated in the next few days.

“He’s a stud. … There’s nothing that’s going to stop him,” Pacers coach Nate Bjorkgren told reporters on Tuesday. “There was first news that this could be two or three weeks and all that. He comes up to me and he’s like, ‘Coach, no way.’ … The thing I like most about him is what he said to me today and just his toughness. He didn’t sit out one part of practice. They put like a little pad on his hand and they taped it up.

“I mean it, just his overall toughness is very impressive.”

Turner did not play in Sunday’s 129-96 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers that dropped the Pacers to 8-5 overall. Indiana hosts the Dallas Mavericks (6-7) on Wednesday.

Per ESPN stats, Turner leads the NBA with 4.2 blocks per game and is also averaging 12.4 points and 6.8 rebounds.
