Owner Of Four-Time Stakes Winner Rowdy Yates Hopes For Invite To $800,000 Saudi Derby

Following Sunday’s win in the $104,200 Riley Allison Derby at Sunland Park, co-owner Michael Levinson is hoping Rowdy Yates will earn an invite to the $800,000 Saudi Derby on the Saudi Cup undercard next month. The 3-year-old son of Morning Line earned his fifth victory from eight starts in the Riley Allison, defeating his nearest rival by 3 1/2 lengths and completing a mile over the fast track in 1:37.29.

“After Rowdy Yates impressive score at Sunland Park yesterday, we have several options on the table,” Levinson wrote on Twitter Monday. “We would love to run Rowdy in the Saudi Cup one-turn mile for 3-year-olds. Just waiting on an invite.”

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Rowdy Yates has won a total of four stakes races and is graded stakes-placed, earning a total of $273,418 thus far in his career. The Oklahoma-bred colt out of unraced Yes It’s True mare Spring Station was a $42,000 yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall sale.

In a follow-up Tweet, Levinson wrote that in the event Rowdy Yates is not invited to participate in the Saudi Derby, the colt will likely return to Sunland Park to continue through it’s prep races for the Sunland Derby.
