Overwhelmed: Islanders blitz Bruins with 5 goals in third period in 7-2 rout

The Bruins were in good shape. They were tied with the New York Islanders in the third period, 2-2. Jaroslav Halak had shrugged off an Anthony Beauvillier shot. Trent Frederic had time to settle the rebound and initiate the breakout.

Professional teams like the Islanders can make rookies like Frederic pay.

As a stationary Frederic settled the puck and started to make a play, Beauvillier picked his pocket from behind. Before Frederic had time to reach for his wallet, Beauvillier gave the Islanders a 3-2 lead at 5:41 of the third period Thursday.

“A young kid just got caught a little bit not moving his feet,” coach Bruce Cassidy said following the 7-2 blowout. “Then we pressed. Made some mistakes. Gave their top players time and space and they buried us.”

The Islanders have tagged the Bruins with three of their four losses in regulation.
