CHICAGO — For the third time in four days, the Orioles have entered a rain delay.
The start of their game Friday night against the Chicago White Sox was delayed because of an “approaching front of rain,” according to an announcement made in the Guaranteed Rate Field press box approximately 35 minutes before the originally scheduled 7:40 p.m. first pitch. The estimated start time is 8:20 p.m. for the game set to be streamed on Apple TV+.
Baltimore (30-18) has now sat through rain delays in both cities of their current road trip. The Orioles’ game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday was delayed for an hour and a half before officials postponed the final three and a half innings to Wednesday morning. The teams finished that game and started the series finale soon after, but that game was also delayed one hour, 25 minutes because of inclement weather. The Orioles lost both games, ending their American League-record streak of avoiding sweeps at 106 series.
Heading into Friday, the Orioles had sat through 14 hours, 33 minutes of rain delays this season after they had a total of 20 hours, 35 minutes in all of 2023. The Orioles are 1-0 to begin their series in Chicago coming off an 8-6 victory on Thursday night.
