One position battle on Washington’s offensive line, but there are lots of questions


Four of the five starters on Washington’s offensive line have undergone surgery of some kind. Depending on who wins the starting job at left guard, that number could go to five. Trent Williams, one of the league’s best lineman, is reportedly set to skip training camp. Brandon Scherff heads into these next three weeks on the last year of his rookie deal, and his camp and the team are still apart on extension talks.

In total, 14 players saw some action along the line last year, and one of the most significant departures was swing tackle Ty Nsehke, who left for a chance to start in Buffalo. His absence will be felt more if Williams doesn’t come back into the fold or an adequate replacement isn’t found. A new quarterback is preparing to play behind this offensive line, and coach Jay Gruden, in a pivotal year, has to try to hold it all together and make it work.
