On this Mother’s Day, Derrick Favors will honor his late mother’s memory and the lessons she taught him

Today, the Favors children will travel to the cemetery and visit their mother. They will freshen up the flowers. They will clean off the headstones. They will laugh. They will cry. They will tell stories. They will wish Deandra Favors a happy Mother’s Day.

Derrick Favors won’t be there to share in what will become a family tradition. He is in Salt Lake City with the Utah Jazz. And on Sunday, in the thick of a chase for the top seed in the Western Conference, the Jazz will fly to San Francisco in preparation to face the Golden State Warriors on Monday night. He will be with his family in spirit. He will visit his mother in person whenever the offseason comes.

Derrick Favors carries the memory of his mother every day, in every facet of his life, on and off the floor. He echoes her favorite sayings when he talks to his children.
