Olive Garden denies donating to Trump after 'incorrect' tweet sparks boycott

Olive Garden responded to calls for a boycott on Sunday by refuting a viral tweet that claimed the Italian restaurant chain donated to President Trump.

The #BoycottOliveGarden had become a trending topic after a now-deleted tweet claimed the restaurant chain was “funding Trump’s reelection in 2020.”

“We don’t know where this information came from, but it is incorrect,” the company tweeted dozens of times to outraged Twitter users. “Our company does not donate to presidential candidates.”

Olive Garden also refuted rumors that its parent company, Darden Restaurants, supported Mr. Trump’s reelection.

“To clarify, Darden does not donate to federal candidates,” the company tweeted.

Olive Garden is the latest company to face a social media boycott in the age of President Trump. Equinox and SoulCycle faced massive Hollywood backlash earlier this month after founder Stephen Ross hosted a fundraiser for the president.
